Situated in the Darling Downs region, 125 kilometres west of Brisbane CBD, Toowoomba is one of the few places in Queensland where you get to experience all four seasons. The city’s history has been preserved in its character-filled buildings and heritage-listed Russell Street. Beautiful jacaranda, camphor laurel and plane trees line the city’s streets – a nod to its reputation for being the state’s Garden City.
Come springtime, this regional centre becomes a national attraction with the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. Every September the city’s 150-plus public parks and manicured gardens are in full bloom. Attractions include home garden competitions, live music, local produce, food and wine festivities and a floral parade – many of the visitors come by chartered, antique steam and diesel trains to view the colourful displays.
The town centre has two shopping centres, department and specialty stores and is home to the largest regional theatre in Australia, the Art Deco Empire Theatre. The Toowoomba Farmers Market offers paddock-to-plate stalls every fortnight, showcasing some of the region’s finest producers, growers and artisans.
This regional city with its wide tree-lined streets and charming Colonial and Federation style homes has all the benefits of urban living. Toowoomba simply has it all.
